Spirit Of Praise is a musical collective of South Africa’s top gospel artists who tour together in a unique stage production that is centred around Celebration, Praise and Worship. These live performances are recorded and then released as albums often hitting multi-platinum status. This year the Spirit of Praise team led by Bishop Benjamin Dube embarked on a nine-date tour around Southern Africa kicking off with a show at the Durban ICC before moving on dates in Gaborone, Harare, and Bulawayo. This flagship concept of the Spirit Music group is in its tenth iteration, and what better than one flagship teaming up with another one, ALLEN & HEATH top-of-the-range mixer the dLive.
With talented artists such as Benjamin Dube, Omega, Dumi Mkokstad, Mmatema, Mpumi Mstweni, Takie Ndou, Sindi Ntombela, Canaan Nyathi, Xolisa Kwinana, Teboho Moloi, Shekinah Motse and Everton Mlalazi on the line-up, worshippers and music lovers quickly picked up tickets for these highly anticipated events. We caught up with the Spirit of Praise tour just having wrapped up the largest show at the Harare International Convention Centre where the SoundGP production team deployed both the Allen & Heath S5000 & C3500 Digital Mixers with the ME Monitor solution to control and record the show.
The team used the Allen & Heath dLive S5000 for the monitor mix. With dual 12″ Touchscreens, 28 Faders, 26 Assignable SoftKeys, and 6 Assignable Rotaries, the S5000 is easy to navigate and control even for engineers who have never had the opportunity to mix on it before. The dLive environment offers up to 128 channels with a fully customisable layout that allows engineers to build an interface that reflects their own workflow and mixing style.
The dLive S class range has its ideal MixRack partners, for this application, the DM64 was the perfect partner for the event. The S class MixRacks feature a gigaACE link to Surface with dual redundancy, 2 DX links for I/O expansion with dual redundancy, 3 I/O Ports with 128 channels 96kHz each, a dedicated ME-1 48kHz port, Add up to 4 dLive Surfaces (1 via integrated gigaACE socket & 3 via optional gigaACE cards). The DM64 offers 64 mic/line inputs, 32-line outputs, redundant Surface Link, DX links, and an optional redundant PSU.
For the Front-of-House, the SoundGP team opted for the smaller C3500 surface which also boasts Dual 12″ Touchscreens, 24 Faders, 19 Assignable SoftKeys and 6 Assignable Rotaries for a near 1 to 1 match with the larger S5000. These were fed into the incredible ME monitor system allowing each of the performers to have their own control of their individual mixes via the ME-1.
The CDM64 MixRack was partnered with the Allen & Heath C3500. The C Class MixRack features a gigaACE link to Surface, 2 DX links for I/O expansion, 1 I/O Port (128 channels, 96kHz), Dedicated ME-1 48kHz port & 2 Network ports. The CDM64 offers 64 mic/line inputs, 32 line outputs and 1 I/O Port. This setup for the monitor mix included an ME monitor system which allowed each performer control over their mix.
Spirit of Praise Volume 10 Tour in Zimbabwe was an audiophile’s dream, with the Flagship dLive delivering exceptional audio throughout the Harare International Convention Centre and for the recording.
Special thanks SoundGP.
