The Vine is a globally renowned gospel choir hailing from Harare, Zimbabwe. Their massive success was built on their album releases such as Trouble and Memories, Musandipfuure and The Great Physician, the group recently celebrated 10 years since their establishment.

The Vine 10th Anniversary Concert quickly became the talk of the town, as tickets sold out in a week. Hosted at The Rainbow Hotel & Conference Centre, in front of a sold-out crowd, The Vine delivered a stunning show, not only from the music perspective but also in terms of stage design and lighting experience. The show featured a 100-piece orchestra from Johannesburg, a 30-piece brass section, a 30-member choir and 30 children from the Adventist Pathfinders. They were joined by Minister Everton Mlalazi, Annatoria, Vashawn Mitchell, Jekalyn Carr and many other acts on the night.

To execute this impressive vision, Events Evolution and their AV partners deployed some of the best kit in their arsenal, Allen & Heath digital mixing consoles and Chauvet Professional fixtures. Allen & Heath dLive is becoming the industry standard at concerts, because of its Dante capability, workflow ease, and the ability to comprehensively run even the biggest festivals with seven models available, from the airline-friendly CTi1500 to the 36-fader S7000, there’s a surface for every application. For this show, the team used the dLive S5000 alongside CDM64 at front-of-house. Featuring two 12″ Touchscreens, 28 Faders, 26 Assignable Soft Keys, and 6 Assignable Rotaries, the dLive S5000 is perfectly suited to handle even the largest shows.

The production team decided to stick with the dLive platform to run the monitors, this time the dLive C3500 paired up with the CDM64, which features a mix engine capable of 128 input channels and 64 mix outputs. Both the S5000 and the C3500 were connected via Dante cards. With the number of people involved in the show, the orchestra, brass section, choir and The Vine group themselves, they needed a system that could take the pressure, and dLive delivered.

“…outstanding audio experience delivered by the Allen and Heath console ranges.” Endelani Kachepa FOH sound engineer & System Engineer.

To match up with the 1st class audio system a high-quality lighting rig was also needed to match the energy and Chauvet Professional always fits the bill. To execute the vision for this event, 12 Maverick MK2 Spots, 3 Rogue R2 Washs, 6 Rogue R1 Beams and 8 Rogue R2 Spots were added and mapped. The lighting rig also included 24 Chauvet DJ EVE E-100Z, 12 Chauvet DJ EVE F-50Z and 40 CHAUVET DJ Intimidator Hybrid as well as 113 Chauvet DJ SlimPar T12 USB and 18 Chauvet DJ SlimPar Tri12 IRC.

The SlimPars were placed on Stage left, right, back and some were put aside for room ambience at the back of the auditorium. On the overhead truss, the teamed mounted 12 Maverick MK2 Spots to work as the main stage spots, to work hand in hand with the Intimidator Hybrids as the beam fixtures with 13 positioned on the truss, 4 at the back of the stage, 6 on the stage floor and 12 to the left & right of the back balcony. For House Lighting the main fixtures were EVE E-100Z working on backing vocals, the EVE F-50Z to light the choir and Rogue R2 Washs and Spots lit up the 100-piece orchestra and band.

“It’s always a privilege to be part of this big concert celebration each year with the Vine. This year we had a huge responsibility to design and deliver a memorable experience to the believers who attended which was made possible and easy with great service from Chauvet fixtures and networking which always gives us ease as they always work well even after long hours of use in programming they always deliver.” Lighting Designer & Head of Technical Blessing Bero

The overwhelming success of this event is a testament to the hard work and dedication from everyone involved. From stage design, costume & wardrobe and technical team.

Special thanks to Events Evolution.
