The Mangosuthu University of Technology have recently invested in an incredible LAMPRO LED wall installed on their campus. This custom screen, built using the LC range of Lampro modules, offers high levels of brightness, heat dissipation, and energy efficiency.

After assessing the environment and discussing the requirements from the University, the technical team from Audiosure, and First Technology in Durban calculated that a 2.5mm pitch was the optimal choice for the indoor space. This pixel pitch best takes advantage of the high-density LED diodes in the LC range to offer a fantastic close viewing distance while the enhanced low grayscale rendering avoids block shadows sometimes associated with indoor screens. This also makes the LC range a perfect choice for most corporate and retail spaces.

The massive custom LAMPRO LED wall is 5760mm wide by 3360mm high, taking up a total of 19.35sqm. These dimensions allow for a resolution of 2304 x 1344 pixels in an aspect ratio of 16:9.3, with a super high refresh rate of 3840 Hz.  The screen has a very wide viewing angle of 140° with a contract ratio of 3000:1, this translates into an immersive experience for viewers from all distances and angles. In total, the LED panels have over 3 million individual pixels with a brightness of around 800 nits. This dynamic screen only draws an average of 19.35A from the grid, making it extremely Energy Efficient.

The screen is driven by a Novastar VX600 Scaler and Processor. This powerful unit integrates both video processing and control into one box and can manage up to 3.9 million pixels with a maximum output width and height up to 10,240 pixels and 8192 pixels respectively. The VX600 can receive and process a wide variety of video signals and high-resolution images through a network of Ethernet, Fiber, DVI, 3G-SDI and HDMI ports. In addition, the device features stepless output scaling, low latency, pixel-level brightness and chroma calibration to further refine the content to drive an excellent image display experience.

The LAMPRO LED wall on the campus is more than just a screen—it’s a dynamic platform to showcase student achievements, campus news, live events, and the groundbreaking research shaping tomorrow. With crystal-clear visuals and real-time updates, it creates an inspiring first impression for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Vernon Harripersadh’s Insights: Choosing Lampro and the Installation Journey

Vernon Harripersadh, Public Sector Senior Account Manager at First Technology KZN in Durban, played a pivotal role in this project. Drawing from his expertise in strategic AV solutions for educational institutions, Vernon shared his perspective on why Lampro stood out and how the collaboration unfolded:

“At First Technology, we’ve always prioritized partnerships that deliver reliability and innovation, especially in the public sector where budgets and timelines are tight. We chose Lampro because it strikes an unbeatable balance—premium performance at a competitive price point, backed by Unilumin’s world-class manufacturing (they produce over 600,000 sqm of LED displays annually). The LC series’ lightweight modules and energy-efficient design were game-changers for MUT’s indoor space; they reduced installation complexity and long-term operational costs without compromising on that stunning 800-nit brightness or 3840 Hz refresh rate.

Collaborating with Audiosure’s technical team was seamless—they’re the exclusive Lampro distributors in South Africa and brought invaluable hands. We assessed MUT’s high-traffic environment together, opting for the 2.5mm pitch to ensure sharp visuals even from 2-3 meters away, perfect for lectures or announcements. The Novastar VX600 integration was a highlight; its multi-input flexibility meant we could future-proof the setup for everything from HDMI feeds to networked content.

Installation took just under a week, with minimal disruption to campus life—our team’s precision rigging kept structural loads low, and the weather-resistant cabinets added peace of mind. Post-install, Lampro’s robust support ecosystem (including remote diagnostics and firmware updates via Novastar) has been exceptional; we’ve had zero downtime in the first months, and MUT’s feedback on the immersive experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Projects like this remind us why we do what we do—turning tech into tools that inspire the next generation of innovators.”

Lethu Khumalo, AV Project lead from the Mangosuthu University of Technology had the following comments to add, “As part of MUT’s broader vision to transform our teaching and learning environments, the installation of the LAMPRO LED Wall in our Main Campus represents another milestone in enhancing both student engagement and campus life. This space serves as a central social and recreational hub for residence students, and the LED wall is designed to elevate their shared experiences, be it through live sports, campus events, institutional broadcasts, or entertainment.

The installation forms part of Mangosuthu University of Technology’s ongoing AV infrastructure rollout, which aims to support blended learning, digital communication, and community engagement across all campuses. More than just a display, the LED wall will serve as a platform to showcase student achievements, campus news, and university updates, fostering a stronger sense of belonging and pride among our students.

Our partnership with First Technology has been vital in ensuring that the solution not only meets technical excellence but also responds to the everyday needs of our students. By integrating innovation with functionality, we are creating a vibrant environment where technology supports both learning and student well-being, truly embodying our commitment to holistic student development

Nothing of this scale happens without collaboration. Audiosure is a proud supporting partner to both First Technology and the Mangosuthu University of Technology in achieving the goals set out and delivering a state-of-the-art World Class Screen to the University and its students and faculty.
